The purpose of a Fitting Manager is to allow you to design and analyze a fit with respect to your current or anticipated skills, modules, rigs, implants, boosters, and other effects. One of the most important benefits of using a Fitting Manager is that it enables you to ensure that your intended fit is effective, possible (in terms of Powergrid, CPU, Calibration, and other restrictions), and affordable.
While trial and error is an effective way to learn the art of fitting, it should not be done at the expense of your wallet! A fitting manager allows you to develop or evolve an existing fit without spending any money on failed or less successful attempts.
At the time of writing, the “Fitting Manager” built into EVE does not provide any of the above described capabilities. The only thing it does is allow you to save fits for personal or corporate use. While this is convenient for quickly buying and assembling a fit, it does not tell you if you are capable of using a fit, how effective you would be in using the fit, and does not provide you a means to gauge ways in which you could improve the fit should you decide to do so. A proper Fitting Manager such as Osmium (my personal recommendation) allows you to customize a loadout to your specifications.
Find a proper Fitting Manager and make good friends with it. Use it exclusively instead of the grossly incomplete built-in Fitting Manager.
